No Internet? No Problem. Citymaps Has Got You Covered.

It’s not always easy to get around in a brand new city or country, sometimes even in your hometown, and when traveling, especially abroad, an internet connection is not always available. But luckily Citymaps, a newly released social mapping app, can help!

Citymaps allows you to access maps and even lets you search points of interest, such as landmarks, restaurants, and museums, all offline.  App users have access to more than 8,000 city guides offline as well. These city guides include general information about the city and include information on restaurants and things to do and see. Users are able to view reviews of destinations, which are submitted by fellow Citymaps users, and can even get driving or walking directions to each place.

Citymaps has worked with other companies, such as Travel + Leisure, Michelin, Anthony Bourdain and The New York Times, to help create maps and lists that highlighted the top restaurants and things to do in particular cities. Users are able to follow these maps and will even be notified if they’d like when these publications add new destinations, restaurants, things to do, or create new lists. Why not leave the planning to the people that know these cities the best? These curated lists are designed to help you get the most out of your trip, no matter how long or short your stay is, and will hopefully help you to find some hidden gems, as well as some known favorites. I'm looking forward to using the app to maybe discover a new restaurant or bar in my very own city.

Users are also able to curate their own map and select points of interest. The maps created on the app can also be shared between multiple users, which is perfect for a group of people trying to plan a trip together.

This app is currently free and is available to download for Android and iOS devices. You can also check them out online at citymaps.com.  Happy travelling!
